Rivers United prioritizes league points over unbeaten record

Rivers United assistant coach Yemi Olanrewaju stated that the club is focusing on accumulating points in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) rather than maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.

Following a goalless draw against Barau FC in Port Harcourt during Matchday 9, Rivers United remains the only team in the league yet to suffer a defeat. Despite this distinction, Olanrewaju emphasized that the squad's primary goal is to improve upon last season's performance through defensive discipline.

“The key thing for us is not to concede. If you don’t concede, you can’t lose a game. That’s our philosophy,” Olanrewaju told club media. The team is scheduled to play a South-South derby against Bendel Insurance this Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
