Riverside Police Arrest Parolee for Killing Kaiser Employee in Hit‑And‑Run

Peter Mullis, a 42‑year‑old Kaiser Permanente employee, was fatally struck while crossing a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Park Sierra Drive near Kaiser Riverside Medical Center on July 27. Police said the driver, initially yielding to officers attempting a traffic stop, fled the scene, pursued on Magnolia Avenue, and collided with Mullis at high speed.

Riverside authorities later arrested 62‑year‑old Gene Amos Cunningham, a parolee with multiple felony warrants, charging him with murder and felony hit‑and‑run resulting in death. Cunningham was booked without bail. The incident prompted temporary road closures and a GoFundMe campaign for Mullis’s family, who were undergoing IVF treatment at the time of his death.
