Rivian sues US government for full tariff refund after Supreme Court ruling

Rivian Automotive filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of International Trade seeking a full refund of import tariffs imposed under the Trump administration. The company argues that, although the Supreme Court declared the tariffs unconstitutional, importers are not automatically guaranteed repayment.

Rivian expects a refund in the tens of millions of dollars, which would provide a modest cash boost as it scales production of its mass‑market R2 SUV. The EV maker recently raised about $1.3 billion by selling shares, and its stock fell roughly 4% after the filing. Rivian joins other firms such as Costco, FedEx, Toyota and Nintendo in pursuing refunds of the struck‑down duties.
