Riviera de São Lourenço companies reach R$ 40 million environmental settlement

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and companies responsible for the Riviera de São Lourenço project in Bertioga, São Paulo, have reached a R$ 40 million settlement to mitigate and compensate for environmental damages. This agreement concludes a 10-year judicial dispute involving irregularities such as the illegal removal of restinga vegetation and interventions in permanent preservation areas.

The settlement includes several key environmental and infrastructure measures. Companies will acquire a 48-hectare property with preserved native vegetation at Praia de Guaratuba, valued at R$ 26 million, to be donated to the State of São Paulo and incorporated into the Restinga de Bertioga State Park. This area is considered a vital ecological corridor.

Additionally, the agreement mandates an R$ 8 million engineering project to regularize the Bertioga channel and the construction of a R$ 6 million administrative building for the Brazilian Navy. The negotiation involved multiple entities, including the Superintendency of Union Patrimony in São Paulo, Cetesb, the Forest Foundation, and the municipality of Bertioga.
