RJD dissolves Bihar committees after Bankipur by‑poll loss
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced on 6 August 2026 that all its state‑level, district, block and panchayat committees in Bihar are dissolved with immediate effect. The decision, issued by Bihar RJD state president Mangni Lal Mandal after consultation with national working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, follows the party’s poor showing in the Bankipur Assembly by‑poll held on 3 August, where RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished third and forfeited her security deposit.
The by‑poll was won by Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor, who defeated the BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha. In the aftermath, senior RJD leaders Bhai Virendra and Shakti Singh Yadav exchanged accusations over organisational weaknesses. The party has tasked Tejashwi Yadav with forming new committees to rebuild its grassroots structure ahead of future contests.
