RM Sotheby's Monterey auction to showcase rare 1960 and 1963 Corvettes

RM Sotheby's will hold its Monterey auction during August's Car Week, featuring two exceptionally rare Chevrolet Corvettes. The 1963 Corvette Grand Sport chassis 003, one of only five ever built as part of Zora Arkus‑Duntov’s secret project to rival the Shelby Cobra and Ferrari 250 GTO, has an estimated hammer price of €10‑12 million (about $11 million), which could set a record for the model. The car previously sold in 2009 for $4.9 million.

The auction will also include a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette that raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (chassis 3535). After crashing and rolling in the race, the car was restored at a cost of over $500,000 and is expected to fetch around $2.5 million. The vehicle was entered by Briggs Swift Cunningham and has remained in his family’s collection until now.
