RMAFC and ALGON partner to strengthen Nigerian local government autonomy
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has pledged to strengthen its collaboration with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to bolster local government administration.
During a meeting in Abuja, RMAFC Chairman Dr. Mohammed Shehu stated that the partnership aims to advance fiscal autonomy and ensure that resources are effectively used for grassroots development. The commission intends to uphold local government autonomy following recent Supreme Court rulings and will monitor disbursements from the Federation Account to which local governments are entitled.
Commissioners also emphasized the need for local governments to increase internally generated revenue to reduce reliance on central allocations. The engagement is expected to address various challenges, including issues related to local government elections.
