RMS Titanic: Why no human remains have been found in the wreckage
Despite the loss of approximately 1,500 lives during the RMS Titanic's sinking on April 15, 1912, no human remains or skeletons have been discovered within the wreckage located 3,800 meters deep in the North Atlantic.
Scientific explanations account for this absence. Many victims wore life jackets, which caused their bodies to float on the surface where they were subsequently carried away by strong ocean currents and storms. For those trapped inside the ship, deep-sea scavengers and marine organisms have since consumed the remains. While explorers like James Cameron have observed personal items such as shoes and clothing that suggest the presence of individuals, no skeletal remains have been found since the wreck was located in 1985.
