RO AI Factory project begins implementation in Bucharest
The implementation of the ‘Romanian EuroHPC AI Factory at ICI Bucharest’ (RO AI Factory) project officially began on September 1. Hosted by the National Institute for Computer Science Research and Development (ICI Bucharest), the project aims to establish a national high-performance computing infrastructure dedicated to the development, training, testing, and validation of artificial intelligence models and applications.
Funded by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) through the Horizon-Ju-Eurohpc-2025-AI call, the initiative will connect Romania to the broader European EuroHPC ecosystem. The infrastructure is intended to serve research, the economic sector, and the public sector.
ICI Bucharest will provide the necessary technical and operational support for the installation and integration of the computing resources. The project is being developed in close collaboration with the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, which serves as a co-coordinator. Full operationalization of the project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2027.
