Río Negro implements administrative document purging and digitalization

Administrative authorities in Río Negro, Argentina, are implementing measures to reorganize and reduce the volume of physical documentation through purging and digitalization processes.

The Provincial Administrative Archive is undergoing a reorganization to ensure it only retains documents with concrete value and utility. Following a joint management effort between the provincial governor and the Minister of Finance, the archive has been moved to a permanent facility, ending a period where documents were scattered across various rented locations. This purging process follows the “Ley de Expurgo” (Purging Law) in effect since 1981.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education and Human Rights has created a dedicated Purging Area under Decree 747/26. This new department, operating under the Subsecretariat of Human Resources, aims to manage the elimination of paper files that have met legal conservation requirements. The initiative is designed to facilitate digitalization, reduce physical space requirements, and streamline administrative management. The total volume of documents eligible for removal will be determined as individual sectors within the Ministry identify and submit files for review.
