Río Negro province expands natural gas networks in Tolhuin and Ramos Mexía

The municipality of Tolhuin in Río Negro began extending its natural‑gas network, securing twelve permits and starting work in the Provincias Unidas and 9 de Octubre neighborhoods. Officials estimate that 100 new parcels could be connected within six to eight months, with further phases planned for the Islas del Sur district and additional infrastructure such as curb and paving works.

In Ramos Mexía, the gas‑line expansion is now 95% complete, adding service to about 130 families. Governor Alberto Weretilneck noted that coverage rose from roughly 30% at the start of the municipal term and aims for 100% by next year. He highlighted the project’s impact on quality of life during harsh winter lows, job creation and local economic activity. Local leaders praised the collaboration between provincial and municipal governments, calling the gas supply “a change of life in the everyday”.
