Río Negro Province Gains $145 Million BID Funding for Health, Agriculture

Governor Alberto Weretilneck met with National Economy Minister Luis Caputo in Buenos Aires, where Caputo signed an International Development Bank (BID) credit of US$60 million to modernise Río Negro’s public health system.

A second BID credit of US$85 million, expected to be approved by mid‑June, will fund agricultural production, irrigation upgrades, rural electrification and tools for emergency prevention such as drought, snow, fire and hail protection. Projects include modernising the IDEVI irrigation system, electrifying Guardía Mitre, building productive infrastructure in Negro Muerto and expanding irrigated areas in Margen Norte.

The health investment will digitise the provincial network, upgrade equipment in 36 hospitals and 191 primary‑care centres, improve connectivity, servers and tele‑health services, and add biomedical technology for intensive care, neonatology and diagnostics. Together the two credits total US$145 million, aimed at boosting the province’s health care quality and agricultural productivity.
