Río Negro Province Grants Benefit to Stop Utility Cutoffs Until 2027
The Río Negro provincial government approved Law 5860, which suspends the interruption of electricity, gas and water services for non‑payment until 31 December 2027. To obtain the benefit, users must submit a sworn declaration and the required documentation directly to each service provider. The law requires providers to indicate where the declaration can be presented and to offer assistance.
The protection applies to households that use the dwelling as a single family residence and are in a situation of social vulnerability – low income below the basic food basket, retirees, pensioners or families with members who have disabilities. Applicants must also agree to a payment plan limited to 20 % of the highest monthly bill. If a provider refuses to process the request, users can file a complaint with the provincial consumer‑defence office or the local OMIC offices.
