Mexico security operations detain dozens, seize drugs and fuel across multiple states

Security forces in Mexico carried out a series of operations in July 2026 that resulted in numerous arrests and large seizures of illicit goods. In Morelos, an armed assault on a family home left four dead and a teenage girl injured; she survived after hiding for two days. In Tamaulipas, authorities dismantled a presumed criminal cell linked to out‑of‑state operatives, killing one suspect and detaining four others, while also seizing firearms and ammunition. Eight members of the state Guardia Estatal were kept on duty pending internal investigations for alleged kidnapping, extortion and robbery in Reynosa. Federal prosecutors, led by Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch, confirmed eight arrests in a fuel‑theft network allegedly involving former Baja California governor Ernesto Ruffo, and reported six Interpol red‑list captures in Quintana Roo. Seven Puebla mayors are under investigation for alleged ties to organized crime. State and federal police seized five stolen vehicles in the State of Mexico, confiscated dozens of weapons, narcotics and large quantities of diesel and oil barrels in Matamoros, and intercepted significant drug shipments in Chiapas, Michoacán, and Quintana Roo. Additional operations in Aguascalientes, Tlalnepantla and other locales resulted in further arrests and the recovery of weapons and drugs.
