Road accidents in India result in multiple fatalities
Two separate road accidents in India have resulted in the deaths of five young men.
In Siliguri, West Bengal, a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a scooter occurred at the Jhongkar crossing on an old bridge. The impact killed two individuals, identified as Arijit Pramanik and 17-year-old Shankar Singh, on the spot. A third person on the scooter was critically injured and remains in intensive care. Local police suspect excessive speed contributed to the crash and have launched an investigation.
In Surat, Gujarat, a motorcycle carrying four people crashed into a safety wall on a railway overbridge in Kudsad village. The impact caused the occupants to fall approximately 50 feet from the bridge. Three people died at the scene, while one survivor is receiving treatment at Surat Civil Hospital. Local residents have called for improved infrastructure, including better lighting, speed breakers, and sturdier railings, to prevent future incidents.
