Road blockades halt transport in Mexico and Colombia

Residents of Camalú, Baja California, Mexico, have blocked the Transpeninsular highway for more than 18 hours, demanding the state governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s intervention to build a hospital and regularize local colonies. The protest has stranded public and freight vehicles, forcing drivers onto secondary roads.

In La Pintada, Antioquia, Colombia, dozens of demonstrators have blocked the Manizales‑Medellín corridor near the Aguadas detour, protesting repeated road closures and restrictions on the Santa Bárbara stretch. The blockade has halted traffic on a key national artery, trapping hundreds of travelers and disrupting the transport of goods.

Both blockades have caused significant traffic congestion, economic losses for local merchants and transporters, and have prompted authorities to consider intermittent openings while dialogue continues.
