Road blockades in Mexican towns demand teachers and hospital services

In the municipality of Tequila, parents blocked the federal Highway 123 Orizaba‑Zongolica to demand the appointment of a permanent teacher at the Emiliano Zapata Indigenous Primary School after the previous teacher retired. The protest halted private, public and cargo traffic, prompting local education officials to engage in dialogue and seek a resolution.

Meanwhile, more than 100 residents from 26 communities in Atlixtac, Guerrero, blocked the Chilpancingo‑Tlapa federal highway to press state and federal authorities to open a community hospital that has stood unused for over a decade. Protesters highlighted maternal and child health risks caused by the lack of medical services and called for the presence of the IMSS‑Bienestar director. As of the reports, authorities had not announced concrete measures.

Both blockades underscore persistent gaps in essential public services in rural Mexican regions and have disrupted major transport routes.
