Road closures disrupt traffic in Saxony and Rhineland‑Palatinate

A full closure has been imposed on the Burkauer Berg stretch in the Lausitz region, identified as a long‑standing accident hotspot due to its steep incline, sharp curve, frequent fog and winter conditions. Authorities have cited safety concerns and limited the area to speed‑monitoring activities, but no major engineering measures have been undertaken.

Separately, a three‑week full closure of the L395 between the city limits of Kaiserslautern and Eselsfürth is under way to renew the bridge deck and resurface adjoining road sections. Traffic is being detoured via local routes, and the project, costing about €2.2 million, aims to improve road safety and durability.
