Road closures impact A59 in Netherlands and Antwerp Ring in Belgium

Major road maintenance works are causing significant traffic disruptions in the Netherlands and Belgium this weekend.

In the Netherlands, the A59 highway towards Rotterdam and Zeeland is closed between Waalwijk and Hooipolder from Friday, September 11, until Monday, September 14. Additionally, two connecting roads at Hooipolder are shut, affecting commuters in Oosterhout and those traveling between Utrecht and 's-Hertogenbosch. Rijkswaterstaat is widening the A59 between Raamsdonk and Hooipolder, with similar closures expected again the following weekend.

In Belgium, the Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer (AWV) has closed the connection from the Antwerp Ring (R1) to the E19 towards Brussels at the Antwerp-Zuid junction. The closure, which began Friday night and lasts until Sunday evening, is necessary to replace the asphalt. Drivers heading towards Mechelen or Brussels are advised to use alternative routes via the R10 or the A12. The Flemish Traffic Center warns of potential congestion and delays on both highways and local detour routes.
