Road Fatalities in La Plata Region Reach 717 in Ten Years

A report by the Observatorio de Datos Estratégicos, with Corazones Azules, documented 717 road‑traffic deaths in the La Plata, Berisso and Ensenada area between January 2016 and July 2026. The capital city of La Plata accounted for 617 deaths, while Berisso recorded 61 and Ensenada 39.

Motorcyclists were the most vulnerable group, representing 53.55% of the fatalities (384 deaths). Automobile drivers accounted for 183 deaths, pedestrians 98 and cyclists 52. Men comprised 76.15% of the victims (546 deaths). Nearly half of the deaths occurred at night or early morning (346 cases), and weekends were the most dangerous days, with 162 deaths on Saturdays and 126 on Sundays.

Pedro Perrotta, head of the observatory and of Corazones Azules, warned that the surge in motorcycle use has outpaced improvements in infrastructure, enforcement and road‑safety education. He proposed measures such as mandatory registration and safety equipment for motorcycles, systematic road‑safety curricula in schools, and stronger licensing and inspection regimes to curb the trend.
