Road fatalities in La Plata region
Overview
A report by the Observatorio de Datos Estratégicos and Corazones Azules documented 717 road-traffic deaths in the La Plata, Berisso, and Ensenada regions between January 2016 and July 2026.
Data indicates that motorcyclists were the most vulnerable group, accounting for 53.55% of fatalities. The majority of victims were men, comprising 76.15% of the total. Fatalities were most frequent during weekends and occurred nearly half the time during the night or early morning hours.
Pedro Perrotta, head of the observatory, stated that the increase in motorcycle use has exceeded progress in road safety education, infrastructure, and enforcement. He has advocated for stricter licensing, mandatory safety equipment, and the integration of road-safety curricula into schools.
