Global road safety reports show varying traffic fatality trends

Various regions report varying trends in road safety and traffic fatalities. In Spain, the Dirección General de Tráfico reported 1,775 deaths in 2025, a 1% decrease from the previous year, though hospitalizations for injuries rose by 3%. In Zamora, deaths fell by one-third compared to 2024, despite an increase in total accidents.

In Latin America, reports highlight rising concerns. In Venezuela, the Observatorio de Seguridad Vial recorded 377 accidents in August 2026, resulting in 131 deaths and 432 injuries, with motorcyclists being the most affected group. In Quito, Ecuador, traffic accidents have become the third leading cause of death, with a 13% increase in fatalities between 2024 and 2025.

In Mexico, Córdoba reported 65 victims from traffic incidents through July 2026, including 20 homicides. Local reports noted that motorcycle accidents frequently saturate rescue services. Additionally, a major international bus accident in Cauca, Colombia, resulted in five deaths and dozens of injuries after the vehicle fell into a ravine; authorities are investigating whether an attempted robbery caused the driver to lose control.
