Roadblocks reported in Yucatán due to transport protests and infrastructure demands

Multiple road closures have been reported across Yucatán, driven by different groups demanding improved road conditions and security.

In Mérida, members of the Alianza Mexicana de Organización de Transportistas (AMOTAC) partially blocked the Periférico Sur near the Mérida-Campeche highway. This national protest aims to address cargo theft, high highway tolls, and the poor physical state of the national road network. The blockade has caused significant traffic congestion in the capital.

In eastern Yucatán, residents from several communities, including San Pedro Juárez and Tixcancal, implemented a total blockade on the Tizimín–Colonia Yucatán highway. The protesters are demanding the urgent repair and paving of roads in deplorable condition. Local authorities, including the Mayor of Tizimín and representatives from the Yucatán Highway Infrastructure Institute (INCAY), have entered dialogues with residents. INCAY officials indicated that maintenance work is scheduled to begin around November 15, with machinery expected to arrive shortly to start preliminary tasks.
