Robbie Chizyuka apologizes for supporting Hichilema, endorses Mundubile

Major Robbie Chizyuka, a founding figure of the United Party for National Development (UPND) and former Member of Parliament for Namwala, has issued a public apology to the people of Zambia for his role in elevating President Hakainde Hichilema to national politics.

Speaking during a virtual campaign rally for the Southern Province, Chizyuka stated that when the UPND sought a successor to founding president Anderson Mazoka in 2006, Hichilema was supported largely due to his financial capacity. Chizyuka expressed regret, noting that with hindsight, other factors should have been considered. He also apologized to Sakwiba Sikota, the former UPND Vice-President, whom Chizyuka believes should have succeeded Mazoka.

During the same rally, Chizyuka endorsed the Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu ticket for the upcoming August 13 general elections. His endorsement was joined by other veteran political figures, including former Cabinet Minister Syache Madyekuku, as the NRP-UP campaign seeks to challenge the UPND’s influence in the Southern Province.
