Robert Carradine family sues UCLA over wrongful death allegations

The family of actor Robert Carradine has filed a lawsuit against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), alleging wrongful death, elder abuse, and neglect following his death in February 2026.

Carradine, known for roles in ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ and ‘Lizzie McGuire’, had voluntarily checked himself into UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital to manage suicidal ideation and bipolar disorder. The lawsuit claims the facility failed to follow critical safety protocols. Specifically, the family alleges that staff did not confiscate Carradine’s belt upon admission—a standard procedure to prevent self-harm or hanging—and failed to conduct required 15-minute safety checks.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Carradine died of an anoxic brain injury resulting from hanging. The suit asserts that instead of entering a secure environment, the actor entered a facility that violated cardinal safety rules for patients with active suicidal thoughts. The family is seeking general, special, and economic damages.
