Robert F. Kennedy Jr. defends remarks on Arab scientific output

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has defended controversial comments regarding the scientific output of Arab nations. During a speech in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kennedy remarked on a perceived lack of scientific and literary achievements from the 22 Arab nations over the last five decades.

Kennedy stated that his remarks were not directed at Arabs or Muslims, but were instead a critique of Islamism, which he described as a toxic ideology promoted by the Muslim Brotherhood. He argued that media reports labeling his comments as racist or Islamophobic omitted this context.

Critics have denounced the remarks as racist and false, citing the achievements of various Arab and Arab-descended individuals, such as Nobel Prize winners Ahmed Zewail and Naguib Mahfouz. Opponents argue the comments constitute Islamophobia and anti-Arab hate from a high-level government official.
