Robert Golob calls for National Security Council meeting amid interference claims

Opposition leader Robert Golob has called on Prime Minister Janez Janša to convene a meeting of the National Security Council. The request follows serious public allegations regarding foreign interference and espionage involving Russia and Israel, which Golob argues could directly impact Slovenia's national security.

Golob emphasized that national security should not be used for political maneuvering and criticized attacks on President Nataša Pirc Musar, stating that accusations of espionage must be supported by official intelligence findings rather than political rhetoric.

Concurrently, political tensions have risen following a parliamentary initiative by SDS member Žan Mahnič. Mahnič proposed a security review and the cessation of intelligence services, such as SOVA and OVS, providing information to the President, citing suspicions of links to Russian intelligence networks. The President's office has denied these claims, stating they do not personally know the individuals mentioned in the allegations.

In a separate development, Speaker of the National Assembly Zoran Stevanović announced plans for a potential visit to Moscow. While Stevanović noted that Russia is an aggressor, he suggested the visit could be viewed as a personal or party decision, a move that contrasts with the government's official foreign policy of supporting Ukraine.
