Robert Golob faces criminal proceedings in Slovenia

The Specialized State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) has notified the Slovenian National Assembly that conditions are met to initiate criminal proceedings against Robert Golob. The case, linked to former Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar, involves allegations of unlawful giving of gifts for illegal mediation during Golob's tenure as Prime Minister.

Golob, currently a Member of Parliament and leader of the Freedom Movement, has stated he does not intend to invoke parliamentary immunity and will vote against its granting to himself to expedite the legal process. The Mandate and Immunity Commission has recommended that the National Assembly not grant him immunity.

The allegations center on suspected political interference in police operations. Former acting police director Boštjan Lindav has characterized the situation as a political campaign, while lawyers for Tatjana Bobnar suggest the proceedings confirm her previous warnings regarding police influence.
