Robert Pattinson stars in ‘Primetime’ about Chris Hansen

The A24 film ‘Primetime’, directed by Lance Oppenheim, is set for a theatrical release in late September 2026. The movie stars Robert Pattinson in a highly acclaimed performance as a fictionalized version of Chris Hansen, the former host of Dateline NBC’s ‘To Catch a Predator’.

Set primarily in 2006, the film explores the rise of the controversial reality program and the moral complexities surrounding its pursuit of individuals accused of seeking sexual encounters with minors. Critics have noted the film’s unsettling atmosphere, describing it as a blend of psychological thriller and dark comedy that examines the intersection of journalism and entertainment.

Real-life host Chris Hansen has expressed strong opposition to the production, labeling it a ‘complete work of fiction’ and criticizing the filmmakers for being ‘exploitative or predatory’ by using his real name. The film’s narrative touches upon the intense pressure for ratings and the tragic death of Texas District Attorney Bill Conradt, which was linked to a sting operation associated with the show.
