Roberto Sánchez leads vote‑defense protest in Lima

Presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez of Juntos por el Perú organized a mass march in central Lima on June 27‑28, 2026, demanding electoral transparency, respect for the vote and justice for alleged crimes in the south of Peru. Sánchez told participants, “El pueblo exige justicia electoral,” and called for a Truth Commission to investigate murders.

The Ministry of the Interior denied the group a permit to march, prompting Sánchez to denounce “obstáculos” and a “pacto mafioso” linked to political rivals. Police deployed along the route, and the municipality temporarily closed several historic streets. Despite the restrictions, hundreds of supporters continued the peaceful protest, chanting “¡Democracia sí, dictadura no!” and pressing for the repeal of anti‑crime laws they see as undermining democratic institutions.
