Keiko Fujimori poised for presidential proclamation amid CIDH challenge by Roberto Sánchez
The 2026 Peruvian presidential election ended with Fujimori of Fuerza Popular receiving 50.135 % of the vote and left‑wing candidate Roberto Sánchez obtaining 49.865 %, a margin of fewer than 50,000 ballots. Sánchez lodged a precautionary request with the Inter‑American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH), alleging irregularities in the overseas vote and a change of rules during the second round.
The National Jury of Elections (JNE) affirmed that the electoral process is final and that any CIDH action will not alter the established timetable. The JNE confirmed a July 3 ceremony for the official proclamation, with credentials to be delivered on July 15 and the inauguration scheduled for July 28.
All 60 Special Electoral Jurors (JEE) have completed the decentralized proclamation of results, and the JNE plenary will soon issue the national proclamation act, formally confirming Fujimori as president‑elect.
