Keiko Fujimori set to receive presidential credentials on July 15

Peru’s National Jury of Elections (JNE) announced that the winning presidential formula will be formally handed its credentials on 15 July at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima. The ceremony will follow the proclamation of the 2026‑2031 election results, which the JNE expects to issue in early July after the 60 special electoral juries complete their decentralized proclamations.

The official count shows Keiko Fujimori of Fuerza Popular with 50.132 % of the vote (9,220,637 votes) against Roberto Sánchez of Juntos por el Perú with 49.868 % (9,172,011 votes), a margin of about 48,600 votes. With 99.976 % of ballots tallied, the ONPE declared the result essentially irreversible. Fujimori will become the first woman elected Peru’s president by direct popular vote.

Earlier this week the JNE delivered credentials to the 130 newly elected deputies and to the senators who will re‑establish the bicameral Congress. The new lower house will be composed of 41 Fuerza Popular members, 32 Juntos por el Perú, 18 Partido del Buen Gobierno, 15 Renovación Popular, 14 Partido Cívico Obras and 10 Ahora Nación.

Opposition figures, notably Roberto Sánchez, continue to protest and claim electoral irregularities, but their legal challenges were dismissed as filed outside the allowed deadline. Allegations of a manipulated outcome have been publicly denied by the electoral authorities. The transition is expected to be smoother than the 2021 change of power, with the incoming administration prioritising security, the El Niño Costero phenomenon and economic recovery.
