Roblox and Meta commit to enhanced child safety measures
Roblox has entered into a court-enforceable undertaking with Australia’s eSafety regulator following findings of gaps in its child protection measures. The regulator’s testing revealed that adults could contact children under 16 without parental consent, children’s accounts were not private by default, and reporting tools for harmful material were insufficient.
Under the agreement, Roblox has three months to implement changes, including making accounts private by default and preventing unauthorized contact between adults and unknown children. The company will also engage an independent third-party auditor to assess its safety measures.
In a separate development, Roblox and Meta have committed to strengthening child-safety protections in the Philippines. Following meetings with Philippine officials, the companies agreed to implement age verification, enhance parental controls, and accelerate the removal of harmful content. The companies also discussed establishing a more significant local presence in the Philippines as the government considers stricter online safety policies.
