Roblox designated as Very Large Online Platform by EU

The European Commission has designated Roblox as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This classification follows the platform surpassing 45 million average monthly users in the European Union.

As a VLOP, Roblox is subject to the EU’s most stringent digital regulations, which include mandatory annual systemic risk assessments regarding illegal content and child safety. The designation comes amid growing concerns over safety risks on the platform, including reports of extremist content and instances of predators targeting minors.

Despite these regulatory challenges, Roblox continues to maintain a significant global economic presence, providing creator payouts and employment opportunities across the EU, Mexico, and the MENA region.
