Roblox announces standalone apps and AI tools at RDC 2026
At the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) in San Jose, Roblox announced a major technical and economic overhaul titled ‘Roblox Everywhere’. This initiative aims to allow creators to publish their games as standalone applications on mobile, PC, and consoles, moving beyond the traditional requirement of the main Roblox app.
Key technical updates include the ability to play directly via web browsers like Chrome by the end of 2026, and the introduction of offline play modes by mid-2027 to support users with unstable internet. The platform is also expanding its engine to support 2D games with features like orthogonal cameras and sprite-sheet imports. Additionally, Roblox is integrating generative AI tools, such as ‘Build’ and ‘Scene Generator’, which allow users to create games and environments using text prompts.
To improve creator monetization, the company introduced ‘Roblox Wallet’ for managing real-currency earnings and the ‘Roblox Card’ for spending those funds. The conference also celebrated the company’s 20th anniversary and presented the 2026 Roblox Innovation Awards, where ‘Animal Hospital’ was a major winner, securing multiple honors including Best New Game and People’s Choice.
