Roblox 20th anniversary and technical overhaul

Roblox initiated celebrations for its 20th anniversary by introducing a nostalgic theme within the application, which included the temporary reintroduction of the platform’s original logo, colors, and font. The company also began distributing exclusive user-generated content (UGC) items and special gifts to users, including premium subscribers.

Following these initial festivities, the 2026 Roblox Innovation Awards (RIAs) were held in San Jose during the 12th annual Roblox Developer Conference. The ceremony recognized various developers, artists, and studios across 20 categories based on community votes, with notable winners including ‘Animal Hospital’ and ‘Rivals’. To continue the anniversary celebrations, Roblox announced ‘The Hunt: Roblox 20’, an event scheduled to commence on September 17.

During the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) in San Jose, the company also unveiled a technical and economic overhaul titled ‘Roblox Everywhere’. This initiative intends to enable creators to publish games as standalone applications on mobile, PC, and consoles, reducing reliance on the primary Roblox app. Technical roadmap updates include browser-based play via Chrome by the end of 2026 and offline play modes by mid-2027.

Further developments include engine expansions to support 2D games and the integration of generative AI tools, specifically ‘Build’ and ‘Scene Generator’, which utilize text prompts for environment and game creation. To assist with creator monetization, Roblox introduced ‘Roblox Wallet’ for managing real-currency earnings and the ‘Roblox Card’ for expenditures.
