Roblox to launch browser-based gaming and offline play

Roblox has announced significant updates to its platform to increase accessibility, including the introduction of browser-based gaming and offline play capabilities. During the Roblox Developers Conference, founder David Baszucki detailed plans to allow users to play games directly through a web browser by the end of this year.

Initially, this feature will support the Chrome browser, allowing players to join experiences via links on social media, email, or search results without requiring a client installation. The update aims to support a wider variety of genres, including 2D puzzles and high-fidelity multiplayer arenas.

Additionally, Roblox plans to introduce an offline play mode by mid-2027, enabling single-player experiences in environments without stable internet connections. As part of the ‘Play Roblox Everywhere’ initiative, developers will also have the ability to turn their games into standalone applications for mobile devices, PCs, and consoles, utilizing Roblox’s underlying technology.
