Roblox continues to hold a prominent position as a global gaming platform, ranking as the second most popular free game on the Play Store as of September 2026. The sandbox platform hosts diverse user-generated genres, including RPG, horror, and racing simulations.

During the Roblox Developers Conference, founder David Baszucki detailed a technical and economic overhaul under the ‘Play Roblox Everywhere’ initiative. To increase accessibility, the company will launch browser-based gaming via Chrome by the end of 2026, allowing users to join experiences through web links without client installation. This update is expected to support various genres, including 2D puzzles and high-fidelity multiplayer arenas. Furthermore, the company intends to introduce an offline play mode by mid-2027 to enable single-player or narrative-driven content without a stable internet connection.

Developers will gain the ability to package specific experiences as standalone applications for mobile devices, PCs, and consoles. Technical advancements include native support for 2D games through orthographic cameras and sprite-sheet integration, alongside expanded generative AI tools like a ‘Build’ tab that allows game creation via text prompts.

To support the creator economy, Roblox is introducing the Roblox Wallet for US-based developers and a branded Roblox Card, a debit card designed to facilitate the direct spending of earnings.
