Robotics competitions and education initiatives engage students in Japan

Robotics education and competitions for children are seeing active engagement in Japan. At Kumamoto National College of Technology, a workshop and regional qualifying event for the Elementary School Robot Contest were held on August 20. Ten students in grades 4 through 6 participated in building their own robots with support from faculty and students, followed by a competition involving 11 participants.

In a separate development, students from the Proglab programming school have qualified for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) international competition. Following the WRO 2026 Japan Finals held in Tokyo on August 22 and 23, three teams across four categories secured spots in the global event. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Proglab students have advanced to the international stage of the competition, which features participants from over 100 countries.
