Rogers Stadium faces repairs after storm damage threatens AC/DC concert
The City of Toronto has issued an order to Live Nation Canada to remedy unsafe conditions at Rogers Stadium following significant structural damage caused by a violent storm. The 50,000-seat venue in North York sustained damage including collapsed sections of the north stadium structure, damaged seating areas, and compromised structural framing for various temporary structures. High winds also overturned viewing stations, tents, and shipping containers on the grounds.
The damage has placed a sold-out AC/DC concert, scheduled for September 16 as part of the Power Up tour, in jeopardy. While the concert has not been officially cancelled or rescheduled, local officials have expressed doubt regarding the timeline for repairs. York Centre Councillor James Pasternak noted that the stadium must be reconstructed and proven safe before crowds can return, suggesting the band might not be able to perform there this year.
Live Nation Canada reported no injuries during the weather event and is currently assessing the full extent of the damage. The city has ordered the operator to secure the site and hire an engineer to oversee necessary repairs. Reports regarding the damage details and the progress of structural repairs are expected in early September.
