Poland: Presidential medals awarded to long-term married couples
In Włodawa, Mayor Wiesław Muszyński presided over a ceremony honoring ten couples who have been married for at least five decades. The recipients received presidential medals for their long-term commitment, with some celebrating 52 years of marriage and others 51 years.
Nationwide, there is a significant backlog in the distribution of these state honors for golden anniversaries. Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the President's Chancellery, reported that reorganization efforts have reduced the backlog by 40,000 applications. However, high demand remains, driven largely by the high number of marriages contracted in the 1970s. The Chancellery expects to mitigate delays by next year, though the budget for these awards remains stable at 6.7 million PLN.
To receive the medal, couples approaching their 50th anniversary can apply through their local Civil Registry Office.
