Romania 2026 Salary Landscape Shows Wide Gaps Across Sectors
Data from the National Institute of Statistics indicate that the average net salary in Romania surpassed 5,000 lei in 2026, but the figure masks large disparities between occupations. The IT and tech sector remains the highest‑paying, with junior roles earning 5,000‑8,000 lei and senior developers, cybersecurity specialists and DevOps engineers receiving 15,000‑25,000 lei. Banking and finance professionals earn 9,000‑18,000 lei depending on role, while private‑sector doctors command 12,000‑28,000 lei, far above public‑sector earnings. Construction jobs have also risen, with electricians, installers and site managers earning 6,000‑14,000 lei.
A separate analysis of a 1,000‑euro net salary (about 5,250 lei) shows that the gross wage must be 8,973 lei, of which roughly 4,000 lei is deducted for pension, health and income taxes, and the employer adds a 2.25% labor insurance contribution. The total cost to the employer reaches 9,175 lei, highlighting the heavy tax burden on high‑earning employees.
