Romania advances major health projects: Oradea infectious disease hospital and Oltenia mental‑health funding

The Oradea City Council approved the technical project for a new infectious‑disease and pneumology hospital within the Bihor County Emergency Clinical Hospital. The facility, to be built at Vlădeasa Street, will house infectious‑disease, pneumology, TB dispensary and related units, covering about 50,000 m² with a minimum of 268 beds (up to 295) and additional day‑care and intensive‑care beds. The total investment rose 15 % to an estimated 728.36 million lei, reflecting new construction, fire‑safety and energy‑efficiency standards, and will be financed through the EU Health Programme 2021‑2027.

The Regional Development Agency for South‑West Oltenia announced an extension of the application deadline to 28 August 2026 for a €15.8 million call under the same EU Health Programme. The funding targets the construction, expansion, modernisation, equipment purchase and digitalisation of mental‑health centres and addiction‑treatment units. Eligible applicants include public health institutions, county councils and municipalities that manage hospital infrastructure.
