Romania advances major highway and local road upgrades

Work on the A1 Lugoj–Deva highway in Romania has reached about 60% completion, according to CNAIR director Cristian Pistol. The project includes two tunnels built with the NATM method, foundations for two viaducts, and 90% of the earthworks. The contract for the Margina–Holdea section is valued at 1.82 billion lei, with the final opening of the 9.13 km stretch now expected no earlier than the end of 2027.

Separately, the Brașov‑Tărlungeni county road (DJ103A) is entering the planning stage for a major widening. Authorities will commission a feasibility study to expand the road to two lanes per direction, add a bypass overpass, construct bicycle paths, and improve public‑transport connections to the Izvor neighbourhood. The total investment is estimated at €30‑40 million, with the study costing up to €0.4 million.

Both projects aim to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and improve regional connectivity.
