Romania pushes ahead on tunnel highway segment and Bucharest A0 ring

The 13.5‑km “highway with tunnels” segment between Margina and Holdea in western Romania is now about 60% complete. The project, funded by a 1.82 billion‑lei contract under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, includes two tunnels totaling 4.6 km and a major viaduct. Officials aim to open the section in 2026, which will enable uninterrupted travel along the Lugoj‑Deva corridor.

On the Bucharest ring road, the 4.47‑km Lot 4 of the A0 Nord (Pantelimon‑Glina) is 95% finished and features a 1.3‑km bridge over Lake Cernica and a 504‑m railway overpass. Despite its near‑completion, the segment cannot be opened to traffic because adjoining Lot 3 (Afumaţi‑Pantelimon) remains unfinished. The two lots must be completed before a continuous link between the A0 and the A2 highway to Constanţa can operate.
