Romania advances major renewable energy projects in Arad and Black Sea

Romania is significantly expanding its renewable energy capacity through two major infrastructure initiatives. In Arad, construction is set to begin next month on a massive 1.3 GWp photovoltaic park. Representing a €561 million investment, the project is expected to become the largest onshore solar initiative in the European Union, capable of powering approximately 250,000 households.

Simultaneously, the Romanian government has moved to unlock strategic offshore wind energy potential in the Black Sea. Following a period of bureaucratic delay, the Ministry of Energy has released the perimeters for offshore wind auctions. This massive program has a total estimated economic impact of up to €27 billion. The initial auction phase targets perimeters with an estimated installed capacity of 3 GW to 3.5 GW, aiming to attract over €6 billion in immediate international private capital.
