Romania advances major road and rail infrastructure projects

Romania is undergoing significant infrastructure developments across its road and rail networks. On the A0 Bucharest Ring Road, Lot 1 (Joița-Corbeanca) has reached 82% physical execution. CNAIR Director Cristian Pistol noted that while connections to DN1A and DN7 could be ready by late 2026, the connection to the A1 motorway is expected in 2027. Meanwhile, Lot 3 (Afumați-Pantelimon) is 98.35% complete, with potential opening by late October.

Other major projects include the A8 highway, where a 5.5 km segment could link the A8 and A7 motorways within a year. In the west, the modernization of the Caransebeș-Timișoara-Arad railway is progressing, with Lot 2 nearing 85% completion. However, tunnel works on the Simeria-Arad line are facing delays, pushing completion to 2027. Additionally, a new express road connecting the A1 motorway to the Dacia plant in Mioveni has entered public consultation.

In local urban planning, Botoșani has begun work on its bypass, and Bucharest is planning a new underground passage at the Olteniței-Iriceanu intersection to improve traffic flow.
