Romania advances major road projects in Timiș, Arad and A8 motorway

In Timiș County, work on the DN58B road between Deta and Cruceni has reached the halfway point. The project is split into the Deta‑Livezile and Livezile‑Cruceni sections. On the Livezile‑Cruceni stretch, milling, concrete removal and excavation are finished and work is under way on ground stabilization, foundation layers and base courses. The Deta‑Livezile segment continues with asphalt recycling and base-layer placement. Contractors are Drumuri şi Poduri Banat (DPB) for the Livezile‑Cruceni section and PORR Construct for Deta‑Livezile.

In northern Arad County, a 67.4‑km road modernisation effort funded with €419 million of EU Regional West money has begun asphalt laying at Apateu. The project, overseen by the Arad County Council and ADR West, includes upgrades to several county roads linking Arad with Bihor, covering segments such as Șicula‑Gurba‑Cermei, Cermei‑Bihor border, Mișca‑Apateu‑Berechiu, Cermei‑Beliu and Șepreuș‑Cermei. Officials say the works are progressing faster than planned.

The National Company for Road Investments (CNIR) has issued a design‑start order for two 45‑km sections of the upcoming A8 “Unirii” motorway, linking Moldova and Transylvania. Funded through the SAFE program, the segments are Moțca‑Târgu Frumos (≈27 km, 36 bridges/viaducts, 4 tunnels) and Lețcani‑Iași (≈18 km, 6 tunnels, 18 passages). Design will take ten months, with construction slated to begin in June 2027.
