Romania advances medical infrastructure through PNRR funding

The Romanian Ministry of Health has announced the completion of payments exceeding 120.7 million lei for medical infrastructure projects funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). These funds are directed toward public hospitals, specialized outpatient clinics, and the reduction of nosocomial infection risks through the acquisition of safety equipment.

The broader PNRR initiative involves 3,121 contracts totaling 1.174 billion euros. This large-scale investment aims to modernize the healthcare system by constructing or equipping seven public hospitals, digitalizing 188 hospitals and 94 public health institutions, and renovating 2,536 medical offices. Other projects include the construction of 66 outpatient medical units and the development of 35 intensive care units for neonatal critical patients.

Progress is also being reported on the construction of three regional emergency hospitals. In Craiova, construction has surpassed the fourth floor, while work continues in Iași. In Cluj, the execution contract has been signed, marking the start of significant progress for that site.
