Romania advances Prunișor–Jupa gas pipeline project

Transgaz is advancing the 177.5‑km Prunișor–Orșova–Băile Herculane–Jupa natural‑gas pipeline, which will run through 25 localities in Mehedinţi and Caraș‑Severin. The line, with a 600 mm diameter and a design pressure of 40 bar, is slated for completion by the end of 2027. Director‑general Ion Sterian inspected work sites at Orșova, Topleț and Mehadia, confirming progress on sections 16, 20 and 22.

The project, declared of national importance by Government Decision HG 616 (31 July 2020) and estimated at €132 million, is expected to supply roughly 74 500 households and 232 public institutions, improving energy security and reducing reliance on wood heating. Deputy Marcel Vela highlighted that the pipeline will benefit tourism hubs such as Băile Herculane and Caransebeș and boost regional economic development.

When finished, the pipeline will interconnect the western and southwestern parts of Romania, fostering new distribution networks and supporting environmental goals.
